The band members orginating from the Pacific Northwest was one of the many groups in the Olympia music scene developing their music in basements. From the official website of the Sleater-Kinney band, Carrie stated that "Corin left a message for me one day saying that we would call ourselves 'Sleater-Kinney'. Up until that moment it had only been a road in a neighboring town. Now it was us. If band names were like baby names, we had picked a Gilbert or Sinclair or Beatrice. When we said, 'We've picked out a name', we always got a 'Hmm', or a head scratch, or a comment as soon as we left the room, like 'that poor kid will be teased endlessly'. Never listen to other people's advice about your band name. Otherwise, you will end up with an Ashley, or a Madison."
From naming songs after they are written, the random decision of naming their band, and shocking energy of three petite local ladies, I must say that they are complete bombshell and bring much history and memories to the Olympia music scene today.
That is because this all-girl rock band by the names of Carrie Brownstein,Corin Tucker, and Janet Weiss have an edgy style, vulgar and unique style of performing that you would never think that the voices were in them.
ReplyDelete--What are we thinking about their voices?
--Also, they only made 1 random decision for there band name
Thanks Casey. Made those changes! Tell me what you think.
ReplyDeleteGreat topic choice, Sleater-Kinney sounds like an awesome band. Your voice is entertaining and strong, relatable and personable. Good job, Rosita.
ReplyDeleteI love your photo.
The story of how they got their name. Awesome way to focus on something and narrow the scope when a blog post about Sleater-Kinney could easily turn into several blog posts!
ReplyDeleteI can certainly read your reaction to their music - you were surprised! Good voice. What were your thoughts before you had a chance to listen to their music?
This was a very interesting piece. You did a great job covering this, and I know you had a hard time finding some of the content for it. Great job Rosita! :)
